| Hey, those steel cut oats are good! | 21 Aug 2007 16:42 GMT | 4 |
I finally found the Irish oatmeal (McCanns) at a local supermarket. It tastes good. Amazing that is tastes different from rolled oats. They even smell a little differently....more like oats from a field smell if you've ever been around those.

| Saccharin | 21 Aug 2007 15:17 GMT | 14 |
I've heard it both ways. Saccharin has been in use since the early nineteen hundreds with no problems and saccharin is a poison that makes you fat. Anyone have an opinion on this artificial sweetner? I'd be lost without it at this point since I put it in smoothees that would ...

| Really tough choosing food & exercise: | 21 Aug 2007 11:37 GMT | 11 |
Bod needs the right kind of carbohydrates – the slow burning ones with low glysemic load and high fiber, the right kind of fats – preferably mono – unsaturated and about a gram of protein per pound of body weight. Personally, I think thats way too much protein – more like ½ a ...

Did my usual gym stuff this morning, then swam a couple of laps in the gym pool (as it wasn't suitable outdoor pool weather today), then went in the hot tub, sauna, & steam room briefly (for my back, which isn't quite recovered from whatever I did to it on the trip). I'm figuring

| Ode to Mountain Dew | 20 Aug 2007 23:08 GMT | 11 |
Today's my first day in, oh, twenty years that I haven't had any mountain dew. (I drink, I mean drank, the diet stuff.) Quite a few people have "mentioned" that I drink a lot of the stuff. In my son's words, "Dad, Mountain Dew is going to be your downfall."

| LA Weight Loss Centers | 20 Aug 2007 21:03 GMT | 12 |
Does anybody have anything to say positive or negative about LA Weight Loss Centers? It seems like people who do it have good success. But it also seems like their nutritional bars that they push are way overpriced. Are their "counselors" on a commission to sell them or

Try hanging around the entrance to McDonalds and watching the customers. Not counting the teens and small kids, most of the customers are over weight. When they go in they look anxious (hungry,) when they come out they look irritable.

| Anyone know of a good cookbook? | 20 Aug 2007 02:14 GMT | 1 |
I been found Harley Pasternak's book, five factor fitness, to be quite useful (quick, easy, and effective), and the Body For Life by Bill Phillips but I am thinking that it would be good to get a good diet book. I have been using Access® Performance bars, (you eat one 15 minutes ...

Usual gym stuff this morning. Spent the afternoon at home, mostly being fairly lazy. Tonight DH and I went to a lobster dinner at the country club, so it was something of a splurge. Just got home. Food:

| What do people put in grits? | 19 Aug 2007 00:09 GMT | 3 |
Tried grits for the first time – tried it straight with no additives except a dash of salt substitute, to see how it tastes. Great stuff. Does anyone have favorite things to add? Fruit, honey, sweetener, etc? It seems at least as good a base for experimenting as oatmeal.
